Is My Oil Tank Safe?
Look, don’t touch. If you see any of these, call a licensed oil heat technician.
- Unstable legs or an uneven foundation
- Rust, weeps, wet spots or excessive dents
- Drips or leaks around the oil filter or valves
- Oil lines under concrete, or aboveground without protective tubing
- Snow or ice that could fall on the tank or filter
- A vent blocked by ice, snow or insect nests
- An overfill whistle that is silent when the tank is filled
- Spills around the fill pipe
- A gauge that is cracked, stuck, frozen or stained with oil
- A tank more than 25 years old
- An outside tank painted a dark color
